About Us

Welcome to Fernweh Collective, Inc! We are a 501c3 non-profit corporation run by a small group of passionate and talented volunteers. We are committed to providing accessible cultural education opportunities through sustainable experiential learning. Our name reflects the collective desire of our members to learn from and embrace cultures outside of our own, and the collaborative effort between all of our participants. Fernweh is a German word that expresses the urge to travel and discover the world. Literally translated, Fernweh means "far-sickness" and conveys the idea of a home-sickness for, and longing to experience, places one has not yet visited.

I founded Fernweh Collective with one goal in mind: to build community through ethical cultural exchange.  Books can only take us so far- there is so much more to learn by getting outside the classroom. Travel is my passion, and I have lived my life in a state of Fernweh, captivated by the possibility of adventure and the unknown. I am excited to share my expertise and inspire a life of cultural knowledge in students by providing university-quality classes and workshops at accessible price points.

In addition to community experiences, the Collective is focusing efforts on digital cultural education. We have several projects in the works with the goal of creating digital open education resources in an attempt to decolonize education and provide quality content free of paywalls.

Stay tuned for announcements of future projects,  including a membership program, an online video series, a podcast, articles, and children’s books. We are always looking for volunteers based on whatever your strengths are, so if you are interested in getting involved please reach out to us!
