Kristin Josvoll, MA
Board of Directors
Kristin Jøsvoll is an Instructional Assistant Professor at Texas A&M University at Galveston teaching in museum studies, maritime studies, and folklore. After completing her masters at Johns Hopkins University in Museum Studies, she worked in several museums, including serving for several years as the Director of Operations and Collections Manager at the Houston Maritime Museum.
She has been with TAMUG for five years developing and teaching the courses for their Museum Studies minor, and working with other professors in the Department to build the archaeology and conservation labs. Museums have always interested her in their ability to educate and present information to the public through the exhibition of artifacts and other objects of importance. When someone walks into a museum, they’re exposed to tangible links to cultures, histories, and truths. This material culture provides the connections we seek that influence and potentially create our own identities – from who we are uniquely to who we are as a whole.
Being able to bring international culture, science, and history to the world is a great passion of hers. Kristin is a proud museum person that is intrigued by the unknown. She collects places travelled (cities, states, countries, and continents), and thoroughly enjoys experiencing other cultures and appreciating world heritage.
Mel Gunshon, Weaver & Storyteller
Owner, The Weaving Honeybee
I'm Mel and a weaver in the North Texas region. Back in 2023 I started a 100 day challenge to make a set of hot pads everyday and post on social media for 100 days. What started as a passive hobby soon became a source of reconnection to my younger self.
As a child, I would constantly get in trouble for talking too much or people would avoid me because I talked too much. It was not until years later in my late 30s, that after taking a career strengths test that the results showed that storytelling is one of my strongest traits.
This would later intersect with my 100 day hot pad challenge.
During this time I noticed there was a spider camped out over my front door. Curious about the significant meaning of spiders, I learned they are also storytellers - they weave webs that communicate a message to other insects and themselves.
Over the last year, I have learned various ways to use a trivet loom, along with other types of floor and hand looms, and I would love to share my knowledge with you!
