About the event
Nourish your body, mind, and spirit in a monthly full moon ritual with your San Diego sisters. Grab your cup and join us for tea as we build community through thoughtfully guided discussion, and then join together for a yoga flow and guided meditation designed to deepen understanding of and personal connections to the book's themes. Each book is hand-picked to spark conversation and critical thought around empowering and complex feminine topics. All women and femme folk welcome! The discussion will be based on the book's themes, so no need complete the book in advance to fully participate :)
All meetings will take place in person in San Diego and include a one-hour discussion on the book, followed by a one-hour guided gentle yoga flow. We encourage you to dress in layers, as it may get chilly. All sessions are facilitated by Randall, a certified yoga instructor and local community college professor who holds a PhD in mythology and depth psychology. Find us at Bird Park by entering on 28th and Thorn, near the swings.
We bring: the tea, hot water, and conversation.
You bring: your cup, yoga mat, and journal.
December's book is On Our Best Behavior by Elise Loehnen, a groundbreaking exploration of the ancient rules women unwittingly follow in order to be considered “good,” revealing how the Seven Deadly Sins still control and distort our lives and illuminating a path toward a more balanced, spiritually complete way to live. Why do women equate self-denial with being good? We congratulate ourselves when we resist the donut in the office breakroom. We celebrate our restraint when we hold back from sending an email in anger. We feel virtuous when we wake up at dawn to get a jump on the day. We put others’ needs ahead of our own and believe this makes us exemplary. In On Our Best Behavior, journalist Elise Loehnen explains that these impulses—often lauded as unselfish, distinctly feminine instincts—are actually ingrained in us by a culture that reaps the benefits, via an extraordinarily effective collection of mores known as the Seven Deadly Sin
